Case in point: Alstom

The Stockholm commuter train (X60) and Swedish regional train (X40) are manufactured in Germany by Alstom. When the new commuter train was introduced in 2005, Interverbum translated approximately a half a million words, from English to Swedish. This project involved 10 translators, as well as the technical experts needed to manage XML files and do technical reviews. The same year we also translated the 1.3 million words used in the technical documentation - of everything from engines and brakes to vending machines - for the regional train. Approximately 40 translators were involved in the latter project.

We used TermWeb, the terminology management system developed at Interverbum to manage and distribute project-specific terminology. As our base, we used LokoTerm, a glossary compiled by Interverbum containing close to 10,000 railroad and train service words and phrases in English and Swedish.
